Ash

Information about Ash

Janka Hardness: 850 lbf

Ash is a strong, straight-grained hardwood known for its durability, shock resistance, and light, consistent color. With hues ranging from creamy white to light brown, Ash features a bold, open grain pattern similar to oak, making it an attractive choice for both modern and traditional applications. Its excellent workability and ability to hold stains and finishes well make it a favorite for flooring, furniture, millwork, and cabinetry. Ash is also widely used in architectural mouldings and custom interiors due to its clean look and reliable performance. Whether you’re after strength or style, Ash delivers both.

Unfortunately the Ash trees in the USA have been attacked by the emerald ash borer, an insect from northeast asia.  So we are losing many Ash trees.

Our Ash Grades

FAS/Prime

FAS (First and Seconds) or Prime Grade Ash offers the highest yield of clear, wide, and long cuttings with minimal imperfections. This top-tier grade is ideal for fine furniture, cabinetry, and architectural millwork where consistent grain and color are key. Its light tone and straight grain finish beautifully, making it a premium choice for designers and woodworkers looking for top-quality results.

#1 Common

#1 Common Ash provides a balance between quality and value, featuring shorter or narrower clear sections with more natural character like small knots or color variation. It’s a great fit for projects like cabinets, furniture parts, or millwork where some defects are acceptable or even desired for a more natural look.

#2 Common

#2 Common Ash includes more frequent knots, color variation, and shorter lengths, making it ideal for rustic or cost-conscious applications. Often used in paneling, casual furniture, or decorative projects, this grade provides the same strength and durability of Ash with added character at a lower price point.
