Garapa

Information about Garapa

Janka Hardness: 1650 lbf

Garapa is a dense, durable hardwood known for its golden to yellowish-brown color, which deepens to a richer tone over time. The sapwood and heartwood are similarly colored, giving Garapa a uniform appearance. One of its standout features is its natural chatoyance—creating a subtle shimmer as the wood shifts between light and dark depending on the angle of the light.

The grain is typically straight but may occasionally be interlocked, and it has a medium, even texture with a soft natural luster. Garapa is rated as durable and performs well in outdoor applications, although it may be susceptible to termites and insects in certain climates. Despite its density, it machines and finishes well, making it a great option for decking, siding, and outdoor furniture.

Note: While uncommon, some individuals have reported mild skin irritation when working with Garapa. It’s always a good idea to follow proper safety precautions when handling wood dust.
