Why Pre-Finish Your Wood Products?

Pre-staining or priming your wood before installation has two key benefits:

  • It provides immediate protection from moisture and UV exposure
  • It ensures a consistent, professional finish with less effort on-site

This is especially helpful for paneling products like shiplap, penny groove, and tongue and groove, which expand and contract seasonally. Pre-finishing helps avoid exposed raw wood at joints or tongues when movement occurs.

Primer for Interior Applications

For interior wood products, we offer a factory-applied primer coat. This base layer is often the most time-consuming to apply in the field because raw wood absorbs it heavily. By applying primer at the factory, painters can easily finish with one or two topcoats, saving time and effort during installation.

Full 6-Sided Protection

Tidewater Lumber offers one- or two-coat factory finishes, depending on your project needs. Every board is coated on all six sides, fully encapsulating the wood to help stabilize moisture content. This minimizes unwanted moisture absorption, which can lead to warping, swelling, or even rot over time — especially in humid or changing climates.
