Walnut is a premium hardwood known for its deep, rich brown tones and distinctive grain patterns. Sought after for high-end furniture, cabinetry, millwork, and architectural applications, Walnut offers a natural elegance that sets it apart from other hardwoods. Its color ranges from light brown to deep chocolate, often with purplish undertones, and may include beautiful streaks and knots that enhance its character. Walnut is strong, easy to work with, and finishes exceptionally well, making it a top choice for both traditional and modern designs.

Our Walnut Grades

FAS/Prime

FAS/Prime Grade Walnut represents the highest quality available in hardwood lumber. This grade is known for its long, wide, clear cuttings with minimal knots or defects, making it ideal for projects that require consistent color and grain. FAS stands for “First and Seconds,” and it’s typically used for fine furniture, high-end cabinetry, and architectural millwork where appearance matters most. Its clean face and superior yield make it a preferred choice for craftsmen and manufacturers looking for premium material with minimal waste.

#1 Common

#1 Common is a mid-grade walnut option offering a balance of quality and value. It features shorter clear cutting lengths and may include more natural character—such as knots, color variation, and irregular grain—compared to FAS/Prime. This grade is often chosen for smaller parts, face frames, or when a more rustic or natural look is desired. It’s a great option for furniture, cabinetry, and millwork where full-length clear cuts aren't necessary.

#2 Common

#2 Common is a character-rich grade of walnut ideal for projects where natural variation and unique features are welcomed. This grade includes shorter and narrower cuttings with more visible knots, sapwood, and grain inconsistencies. It’s well-suited for decorative accents, rustic furniture, and applications where cost-effectiveness and personality are key. Despite its lower grade, it still offers the warmth and beauty walnut is known for.
