White Oak Hardwood Flooring

White Oak hardwood flooring has become the defining flooring choice of the decade — prized by designers, builders, and homeowners for its versatility, durability, and timeless appeal. With a Janka hardness of 1,360 lbf and a tight closed-grain structure, White Oak holds up beautifully under heavy foot traffic while taking stain evenly across a full range of finishes. From wide plank to herringbone layouts, natural matte to wire-brushed and fumed looks, White Oak adapts to virtually any interior style. Tidewater Lumber has supplied specialty hardwood flooring lumber to contractors and manufacturers across the United States since 1981. Types of Cuts

Plain Sawn (Flat Sawn)

Plain sawn is the most common and cost-effective method. It produces wider grain patterns with cathedral-like arches that vary from board to board. While it has more movement with moisture changes than rift or quarter sawn, it still performs well and is popular for furniture, trim, and general construction. This cut highlights the traditional, warm look of white oak.

Quarter Sawn

Quarter sawn white oak is known for its striking medullary ray flecks—natural patterns that add visual interest to the wood. This cut also offers excellent stability and resists cupping and twisting, making it a smart choice for high-traffic flooring, doors, and architectural millwork. Quarter sawn boards are cut at 90° angles to the growth rings.
